Birthday Presents

I’ve been told that if you don’t throw a birthday party, you’re can’t expect people to give you a birthday present because you’re not giving them the opportunity to give it to you (regardless of the frequency with which you see them.) I’m not too sure if I agree with that. No, wait, let me rephrase; “I’m sure I don’t agree with that.” What do you think? No presents without a party, or shouldn’t it matter?

  1. Dude your gift is still in preparation….don’t sweat ;)

BTW I agree with you that throwing a party isn’t mandatory. Though I do like the idea of celebrating the event that I made it through another year without being struck by lightning or hit by a car :)

  2. Who believes that?

Definitely shouldn’t matter if there is a birthday party. The party is for fun together, to celebrate. The presents are to make someone feel good, and loved, and a birthday is a good reason to give presents.

  3. I don’t believe there needs to be a birthday to give a present in the first place. Presents are always welcomed. Though you shouldn’t actually beg for them, you know. Then it becomes more of a tribute than a present. ;)

I’m not so concerned with a gift (I’ve gotten a great one already) but more with the rule that you have to have a party in order for there to be gift-giving.

Eva brought it up. I’m wondering if she said it in order to get me to throw a party. Hmmm.

  5. Okay, Jim, I don’t like you anymore, stay in Chicago. :P

And btw, I was talking about explaining what _I_ said, not what _he_ said.

  6. Dennis: I’ve already answered your email from Friday. Respond yourself!

If you’re referring to some later email, I haven’t received it.

Mouls: Well….that just makes it even worse, eh? :D

  7. For some reason I got those replies really late, which sucked. I’ll see if I can get DII to say something on the subject as well, since he was eager to come along to Denmark
