City-sanitation workers are on strike this week, trying to negotiate a four percent payrise. These people sweep the streets and sidewalks, pick up the trash, and empty the public bins, daily. There is so much garbage just floating around the streets right now, mid-summer, during tourist season, during SAIL, one of the largest events of the year. It’s disgusting. I’m expecting the plague to erupt any time soon.

SAIL is actually once per five years. Striking is one thing, leveraging a 2.5 million people event to get your way is another. The strikers have received such bad press, it’s quite unusual for a country that usually is sympathetic towards them.
Yeah but the are getting there. People now see how much we need those dude’s. They werew considered lowest -of-the-low but now we realise they are well needed. Damn them for doing it during SAIL though, it get the job done i geuss
