Gaming, Hours on Record

So I just looked at my own Steam profile and looked at the top 25 games I and the amount of hours I spent on them. Shocked, as per usual. Here’s the list, ranked from most to least hours spent on it:

  1. Borderlands 2 – 425 hrs
  2. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – 330 hrs
  3. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel – 174 hrs
  4. Mass Effect 2 – 111 hrs
  5. Watch_Dogs – 109 hrs
  6. Mass Effect – 92 hrs
  7. Deus Ex: Human Revolution – Director’s Cut – 140 hrs
  8. Hitman: Absolution – 59 hrs
  9. Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days – 54 hrs
  10. XCOM: Enemy Unknown – 54 hrs
  11. Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor – 50 hrs
  12. Borderlands – 43 hrs
  13. Shadowrun Returns – 34 hrs
  14. Alan Wake – 17.8 hrs
  15. Deus Ex: Human Revolution – The Missing Link – 14.0 hrs
  16. Max Payne 3 – 12.6 hrs
  17. Gabriel Knight – Sins of the Fathers – 11.9 hrs
  18. Hitman: Sniper Challenge – 10.0 hrs
  19. Shadowrun: Dragonfall – Director’s Cut – 5.7 hrs
  20. Tales from the Borderlands – 5.5 hrs
  21. Alan Wake’s American Nightmare – 5.2 hrs
  22. Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth – 4.7 hrs
  23. Amnesia: The Dark Descent – 3.9 hrs
  24. Remember Me – 3.1 hrs
  25. SEGA Genesis & Mega Drive Classics – 2.4 hrs

What’s important to note is that this doesn’t include the games that I own on Origin, which are few, only Dragon Age: Inquisition and Mass Effect 3, but both games that I’ve spent quite a bit of time on. Probably about 80 hours each. There’s also a few games that I have in my Steam library that I bought after having played a pirated version. Like Kane & Lynch, the first three Hitman games and the first two Fallout games. I’ve also bought some things on Steam that I had bought physically, like the first two Deus Ex games, System Shock 2 and Fallout 3.

Oh, the total time logged played games on Steam: 1724,2. 72 days.

Mass Effect 3, Statistics

Mass Effect is probably the best series of games I’ve ever played. It’s story and depth are incredible and it has the most amazing way of drawing you in. Well, me at least.

It’s been a while since the last game was released, and slowly it’s been dropping off the media’s radar. Occasionally, there will be an update or rumour on a future game, or another random tidbit of information about the universe or some of the related products, which I then lap up like a junkie looking for his next fix.

Bioware recently released some interesting statistics for the third, and at the time of writing, final game. The main character in the game, the character that you play, is named Shepard. Male Shepard’s first name is John, female Shepard’s first name is Jane. Since the first name is never (rarely?) used in the game, it’s a completely arbitrary choice; it could be anything. And so, when you start the game, you can either create a new character, or import a character from a previous game, and set a first name. Here are the top five first names for both male and female Shepards:

Mass Effect 3 - Name

So it turns out, when people decide to deviate from the standard John/Jane name, they either choose Sarah or Jack. The entire list is rather boring, with the possible exception of “Alex” appearing in both the male and female top five.

Now comes the real meat of the released statistics:

Mass Effect 3 - Choices

Some of the statistics aren’t too interesting or surprising, like the amount of male vs female Shepards (disappointing number of female Shepards, even though apparently the voice acting for FemShep is much more compelling), or the amount of enemies killed to date, or even that most people play a paragon instead of a renegade Shepard, or that most people decided to play a soldier and that not many were pulled towards playing an engineer.

But what is interest, is that 3.8% of the players had the fucking gall to shoot Mordin and that 92% decided to cure the Krogan genophage. I was also surprised to say that Vega and Ashley/Kaidan were so unpopular as squad mates. Also, who are these heartless cunts that don’t let Garrus win the shootout?! :)

God, these games are so good.
