Marina and Ulay were partners for over 10 years after they met in the 70s. They decided the relationship had come to an end and in order to give it a proper closing they decided to walk the length of the Great Wall of China, each starting on one end and meeting in the middle. When they met after having walked 2500 miles, they gave each other one final hug and never saw each other again.
…until 2010, about 20 years later, during this exhibition.
